Sault Ste Marie Radio Control Model Airplane Club

Welcome to the Sault Radio Control Model Airplane Club.

This package contains the club field guidelines, MAAC Field rules, a membership list and other information to help you. Please feel free to contact any member of the club with any questions regarding club operations.

Safety;
The club and MAAC safety rules are included. The club Instructors and club Safety members are charged to ensure these rules are followed.

Club Dues;
All club dues and any special assessments must be paid to the treasurer prior to using club facilities. Special assessments may occur when an unbudgeted expense arises.

Model Aeronautics Association of Canada;
Membership in MAAC is mandatory. No member shall participate in club operations without a valid MAAC Membership. It is up to all members to provide proof to the Chief Instructor or treasurer of having the current MAAC membership. This is typically done at a club meeting and generally in conjunction with paying the annual club dues.

Returning Members, Transferring Members;
Members returning to the club or pilots moving to the city are expected to provide proof of competency prior to flying at our field. In most cases this will be a basic review of frequency control process and a quick check flight witnessed by any instructor. Members returning after a significant absence will likely require a few training sessions before being fully comfortable flying on their own.

New Members;
The club operates a very good pilot training program and all new members must complete “basic training” before being allowed to fly unassisted. The training program is attached to this package. The new member must demonstrate an understanding of model aircraft operation, basic concepts of flight and consistent control of his aircraft. He will then be allowed to be “tested for his wings” before the club’s review committee. This will not be his instructor, but two other members who are able to judge the member’s knowledge of safe flight line operations and safe flying ability.
New members will be assigned an instructor for their training process. It is the responsibility of the trainee to coordinate flying sessions with his assigned instructor. The trainee is certainly free to request the assistance of other instructors in the event his instructor is not available. This should be done only with communication between the two instructors.
